For the third match in a row we had to take the field understrength, due to injuries and absences, and again the girls rose to the occasion and put in an outstanding display. We started the match with only 13 players but held our own for most of the first half, which ended on a scoreline of 1-2 to 3-3. With our strength up to 15 at the start of the second half the girls laid siege to the Watergrasshill goal, and points from Taylor, Orlaith and Dayna gave us great hope of a win. We made steady progress but thanks to the heroic play of the Watergrasshill goalkeeper, we never closed the gap fully and entered the last five minutes 3 points down. Two more ‘sure fire’ goal chances were saved by the Hill keeper before the match ended at 2-7 to 4-5.
If Taylor Bradley’s goal last week was outstanding, it was matched by a fantastic goal from Kate Cadogan early in the match, following a fantastic solo run. Our reliable free taker, Laura was on target with two pointed frees.
Special praise must go to our backs, they stopped attack after attack and on several occasions ran themselves into the ground to retrieve possession.
We are indebted to Donna and Dayna for joining our team and both played outstandingly well. The future of the club is secure with young players like these.
