Lisgoold 2' 0" Bride Rovers 5' 5"
What a year it has been for this young bunch, and what a journey they've enjoyed to the Final. Whilst on the day we were second to a well organised and very mobile Rovers side, we are very proud of the achievements of the team in reaching the first of what we hope will be many Finals in the years to come.
Coaches Dan Kelleher and Liz Power can be very pleased with the progress made by their charges throughout the year, which culminated in a great Final performance. While Bank Holiday weekends might be traditionally more suited to travel, to visits to garden centres, or to Halloween preparations, the huge crowd braved terrible weather conditions of constant driving rain at Pairc Lios gCúl were rewarded with and entertaining and talented encounter.
Our opponents were quicker to settle but were constantly repelled by the brilliant Sarah Kelleher and Rachel McCann, whilst the industry of Fiona Murphy at centre back, of Sinead O' Brien at midfield and of Orla Fleming up front kept our forward momentum positive throughout.
A disallowed goaljust before the break saw us narrowly behind by just 1' 3" to 1' 0" at half time with the game anybody's to win at that stage. However, despite the best efforts of Aoibhe Savage, Niamh Power, Allanah Russell and Britney Devine between the posts, Rovers ran out victors on a day when everyone was a winner and indeed the game of Ladies Football was once again an outright winner.
Dan and Elizabeth expressed themselves very proud of the achievements of the girls this year.
