East Cork Oil U12 League D League Final

Lisgoold 6' 16" Bride Rovers (B) 3' 0"

Saturday 27th June our U12s made the short trip to Carrigtwohill for their date with destiny in the East Cork U12 D League Final decider against Bride Rovers.

The large attendance enjoyed the warm June sunshine and entertaining football served up by both teams in this sporting game.

The Lisgoold girls certainly saved their "best for last" as in their final league game they produced a scoring exhibition that would do any team proud.

Captain, Kate Ruane elected to play against the breeze in the opening half and from the off the Lisgoold girls layed down a marker which gave a clear indication that the Bride Rovers girls were going to have a huge battle on their hands if they were going to take the League title back to their home village of Rathcormac.

Lisgoold raced into an early League with some excellent scores from Laura Walsh, Ella O' Brien and Dayna Bradley however, the Rovers girls showed great heart and during a purple patch levelled the game with 3 good goals as the half progressed.

With Donna McCann switching to the half back line and the midfield pairing of Caoilinn Hickey and Dayna Bradley taking control in vital midfield battle Lisgoold regained the ascendency.

The Lisgoold girls now launched a major assault on the Rovers goal as half time approached and were rewarded with some excellent scores and a commanding half time lead.

On the resumption the Lisgoold girls signalled that they were not going to sit back on their first half lead and once again mounted wave after wave of attacks on the Bride Roves defence.

To their credit the Rovers girls never gave up and continued to battle bravely despite the tide turning against them on the scoreboard.

Dayna Bradley, Donna McCann and Caoilinn Hickey added to the Lisgoold second half tally with some excellent scores as the second half progressed.

The half backline of Aoife Roche, Sinead O' Brien and Jodie Townend had an outstanding second half repelling the Bride Rovers attacks time after time.

This was a great team performance by our girls on the day an in the end our girls proved too strong for a gallant Bride Rovers side.

Special mention to Laura Walsh who had a great game scoring 1' 2" and laying down a marker for her brother Conor who was lining out later in the day with the Junior A's against Bride Rovers.

Happily for Lisgoold Laura's example had a good effect on Conor and the lads who completed the "double" with a thrilling victory over the Rovers lads after extra time.
