East Cork U10 League

Under 10 : Lisgoold 2 - 5 St. Colmans 0 - 1

Our U10 girls played their first league match of the 2009 season on Wednesday 13th May against St. Colmans in Pairc Lios gCul. Played on a misty May evening spectators spirits were lifted by a great game of football produced by both teams.

Throughout the first half it was end to end football as both sides tried to put scores on the board. The Lisgoold full-back line of Sarah Kelleher, Rachel McCann and Katie O'Mahony vigorously defended their line and together with goalie Britney Devine prevented St. Colmans forwards from hitting the target.

Equally impressive were the half back line of Aoibhe Savage, captain Grace O'Driscoll and spearheaded by centre back Fiona Murphy. Our midfield pairing of Niamh Power and Sinead O'Brien supplied the forward line with great ball and our forwards, Ciara Lawlor, Christine O'Driscoll, Alanna Russell, Laura Whelan and Sarah Murphy were unlucky not to convert these passes to scores.

The hard work paid off before half time with three well taken points from Niamh Power. Once again in the second half it was end to end stuff as both teams worked hard to earn victory. Orla Fleming excelled at centre forward and the break through came ten minutes into the half when Niamh Power hit the net with Lisgoold's first goal and she followed it quickly with a great point. St. Colmans replied with a well taken point but when Sinead O'Brien's shot hit the crossbar and full forward Laura Whelan, alert to the rebound, crashed the ball to the roof of the net there was no coming back for St. Colmans. Sinead O'Brien finished the scoring with a long range point.

Well done as well to our substitutes on the night, Emer, Nicole and Erin who played great when they came on.
