Lisgoold 0' 3" Midleton 7' 2"
This was our first game of the season with our neighbours Midleton proving to be very strong opponents.
Played on a fine spring evening in Lisgoold this game was far more competitive that the scoreline might suggest. Whilst Midleton were worthy winners the Lisgoold girls put up stiff resistance for long periods of the game and continued to press right to the final whistle.
The opening exchanges of this game were tight with both teams attacking at every opportunity.
Lisgoold were dealt an early blow with the loss of Niamh Power from our defence due to injury as we approached the end of the first quarter.
We continued to battle bravely but Midleton edged ahead with some fine scores as the half-time whistle beckoned.
The second half continued as absorbing as the first with those in attendance witnessing great efforts form the Lisgoold to peg back Midleton's lead.
The battle around the middle of the field continued to ebb and flow with Lisgoold having great contributions from the tireless work of Caoilinn Hickey, Donna McCann, Dana Bradley, Aoife Roche and Elizabeth Hegarty.
Midleton's backline proved to be too big a hurdle for our girls to overcome on the night despite continued pressure right throughout the second half. Our forwards forwards battled bravely led by the ever improving Ella O' Brien with good contributions from Ceire Flynn, Siomha Walsh, Morrigan Maunsell, Aoife Healy, Sinead O' Brien , Aoibhe Savage and Stephanie O' Driscoll.
As the game progressed Midleton's ability to convert their chances into scores whilst repelling our efforts proved to be the difference on the night.
Our backline fought bravely from start to finish in this encounter, marshalled by goalkeeper Rachel McCann with great assistance from Kate Ruane, Lorraine O' Driscoll, Niamh Power, Laura Walsh
The game remained competitive right to the final whistle and our girls can be proud that never gave up at any stage despite Midleton's resolute defence and increasing lead.
For many of the girls this was their first competitive game since September last year and there are goods signs that if we continue to improve our opponents in the upcoming games will find that this bunch of Lisgoold girls have a lot of talent and no shortgage of heart.
