Shortly after noon on Bank Holiday Monday the first of forty seven eager groups and associated suppoprters, set out from Leamlara Cross on their 4.6 km journey to Lisgoold GAA pitch for the traditional Long Kick fun event and fundraiser.
The brightness of the wonderful morning weather as the sun pushed it's way between the clouds across our parish gave us the first indication of the beautiful day that lay ahead. The youngest participants gave an eager impression of the spring lambs in the carefully tended fields all around us as they bounced their way forward at every opportunity, and the adults displayed a competitive streak that augers well for the playing season ahead.
Lisgoold Leamlara Ladies Football Club are more appreciative of all who supported the day, including all who sponsored and contributed in many ways to what was a very successful event, both on the road and financially.
Similar to The Masters Golf final round, which went to a "three - way play off" to decide the ultimate outright winner on Sunday night, so also did the Long Kick the following day. Following a tense three team play - off, the winning team of Brid Cullinane, Maureen Riordan and Tanya Kingston were crowned champions and announced as victors.
