Lisgoold 0-1 Douglas 4 - 6

Douglas paid their first ever visit to Páirc Lios gCúl on Sunday evening for this all County League encounter and came away with a hard earned victory.

The match opened with the teams evenly matched and Lisgoold held the visitors scoreless for the majority of the opening half, mainly through great defensive work early on from Amy O’Mahony, Trish Tobin and Esther Barry. The host side had a number of new players making their debut, as the Blue and Gold welcomed Linda Croston, Tara Cronin and Alison Donovan, who all made their presence felt throughout the game and acquitted themselves well. Sinead Murphy continued to win primary possession in the pivotal half forward line, and good early play from Liz Connery made life difficult for the visitors.

Following a period of sustained pressure, Douglas eventually breached the home defence and went in at half time with a six point lead. Following the half time break, Lisgoold followed their early season pattern and kept their best play for the second period. Early pressure from midfield dynamo Elaine Power, who gave an outstanding display of fielding, ably supported by Keara O’Sullivan, led to Lisgoold dominating for the early period. In the forward line Norma Woods and Jackie Hogan continued to win possession and Brid Cullinane was always a scoring threat, whilst Linda Croston capped a fine performance in her first game with a great point.

The visitors went on to win well in the end with some well taken scores. Lisgoold were thankful that Trish Walsh was again in top form between the posts. Lisgoold continue to improve with each match with Tanya Kinston excelling in a new position, Elaine Lochyer winning good amounts of possession and Frances Connery performing very well in defence. This was the best all round team performance to date and the hardy supporters who braved the evening chill were treated to an entertaining encounter.
