East Cork Oil U12 League v Bride Rovers

Lisgoold 3' 4" Bride Rovers 7' 7"

Our under 12's hosted Bride Rovers in Lisgoold on a bright but windy Saturday afternoon. This was our 2nd game of the season and again this proved to be a very tough assignment for the girls up against a Bride Rovers "A" selection that were worthy winners on the day after a tough battle against a "never say die" Lisgoold outfit.

Having won the toss captain Aoife Roche elected to play with the aid of what proved to be a stiff breeze in the first half. The opening exchanges again proved to be lively and entertaining with both teams exchanging scores.

As the half progressed Bride Rovers began to pull ahead on the scoreboard with some fine scores despite playing against the breeze. Lisgoold however were beginning to get a good supply of ball into their attack with Ella O' Brien again featuring strongly putting the Bride Rovers defense under great pressure. Had our girls been able to convert a number of the scoring chances that presented from play and frees then the half time score difference of 4 points could have been much closer.

Facing into the second half against a strong breeze and trailing on the scoreboard our girls showed great fighting spirit as they took the game to Bride Rovers with some early scores reducing the Rovers lead. The efforts of playing into breeze in the second half began to their toll as our girls began tire against a stronger Bride Rovers outfit. Having just one substitute available on the day restricted the team management's ability to introduce fresh legs as the half wore on.

Bride Rovers again took some fine scores as the half wore on but this bunch of Lisgoold girls have got great team spirit and battling qualities. They steadfastly refused to give up despite tiring legs and a widening gap on the scoreboard. Bride Rover's last goal came on the stroke of full time ending what was a very entertaining match between two committed groups of players.

Team coaches Willie McCann and John Hickey were proud of the great efforts that each of the girls made and are confident that the team can continue to improve as the year progresses.

Caoilinn Hickey played a "blinder" at midfield (contributing 2 fine points) and was ably assisted by Donna McCann, Aoife Roche and Ella O' Brien.
