Junior Ladies County League Debut

In perfect conditions Lisgoold Junior Ladies made their debut in the County league for the first time in many years and there was great support from across the parish to witness this major step forward for the Club. Right from the throw in the home side were under pressure against a much more experienced Bishopstown side and the visitors quickly ran into a large early lead.

The Lisgoold side began to settle and there were fine defensive displays from Elinor O’Keefe, Frances Connery, Amy O’Mahony and Tanya Kingston. As the game progressed Catherine O’Connell and Keara O’Sullivan began to apply significant pressure on the visitors in the midfield area. Lisgoold finished the half with much better passages of play and increased possession.

Throughout the half Esther Barry, Aileen O’Keefe, Maria Connery and Trish Tobin supported the defensive efforts to contain the Bishopstown attack. The visitors, aided by a strong breeze, were well ahead at half time. In the second half a more rejuvenated Lisgoold took to the pitch and there was early superb work from the team that resulted in a well taken point from Maureen O’Riordan, much to the delight of the large support. As Lisgoold continued to build momentum, with good play from Edel O’Riordan, Yvonne Manning, Jackie Hogan which resulted in a second score from a great point by Aileen O’Keefe.

Lisgoold continued to pressure up front with good displays from Norma Woods, Elaine Lochyer. Throughout the match Elaine Power displayed good versatility and goalkeeper Trish Walsh gave an outstanding display pulling off a series of fine and courageous saves.
