This highly competitive game played in perfect conditions was the opening competitive match for Lisgoold U-14s of the 2009 season. Lisgoold made a great start with early scores from Sarah O’Shea, Leah Hogan and a goal from Laura O’Shea ensuring that Lisgoold ran into an early five point lead after 10 minutes.

Watergrasshill clawed back with an excellent goal and point however the home side were finding it difficult to cope with the attacking play of Taylor Bradley who finished the first half with a personal tally of 1 – 3. Watergrasshill added two further goals and this left Lisgoold leading by five points at the interval.

The second half was equally competitive with both sides displaying excellent passages of team play as well as individual skill. The scoring in the second half was opened by Leah Hogan with a well taken point. Watergrasshill again attacked well and penetrated the Lisgoold defence and were rewarded with a goal following a great solo effort from their midfield. Lisgoold dug deep as they saw their lead slip to two points and were awarded a penalty midway through the second half. Taylor Bradley converted and restored a comfortable margin.

Throughout the game the mid field duo of Kelly McCann and Cara O’Brien covered a huge amount of the pitch ensuring a constant supply of ball to the forward line. Up front Dayna Bradley, Ella O’Brien and Kate Ruane all made their presence felt.

Great defensive work by Leanne Woods, Laura O’Shea and Sarah O’Leary and trojan work by Caoilinn Hickey in the second half ensured that Lisgood were always on top in this encounter. Taylor Bradley added another goal and Cara O’Brien brought the scoring to a close with a point just at the final whistle to give Lisgoold a six point win.
