Blackrock defeat Lisgoold

Lisgoold Ladies Football

Junior Ladies All County League

St Michaels Blackrock defeat Lisgoold
Lisgoold Junior Ladies travelled to St Michaels in the City subarb of Blackrock in the latest round of the All County league on Sunday evening last. Lisgoold faced a much more experienced and youthful St Michaels side , and this , combined with playing against the wind in the first half made the opening half a very difficult experience for the visitors.

Lisgoold maintained a stern defence for the first half, with Esther Barry and Amy O’Mahony making life difficult for the home side early on. Catherine O’Connell (mobile and rangy) had a great performance in the middle of the field and was supported well by her partner in the "lar na pairce" zone, Keara O’Sullivan. The home side went in at half time with a significant lead.

The second half was a very different story for Lisgoold with the team emerging with greater determination and with the benefit of the aid of the stiffening breeze. The half back line began to dominate with great possession play from Trish Tobin, Elinor O’Keefe and Elaine O’Brien. Lisgoold, with the wind in their favour launched a number of early attacks and were rewarded with a superbly taken goal from sharpshooter Edel O’Riordan. The forward line continued to pressure the host defense with good work from Tanya Kingston, Elaine Lochyer and Maria Connery. When called upon in goal, Trish Walsh made a number of terrific saves in the second half to repel the home team. St Michaels ran out winners in the end but this was an improved all round heart warming performance from Lisgoold.
