U14 East Cork Final v Eirns Own

Lisgoold 4.08 Erins Own 0.04

It was into the Lions den on Saturday that our young girls ventured, as we visited Erins Own home, pitch in Caherlag for their Under 14 Championship decider.

A bright and crisp Autumn afternoon would greet the large travelling Lisgoold contingent , and little did we know that over an hour later the happy Lisgoold supporters would celebrate not only the annexing of another Championship trophy ,. but the warmth of a wonderful team performance .

East Cork Chairman, John Hickey had the honour of presenting the trophy to Lisgoold captain Caoilinn Hickey , and we wondered when a Chairman ever had the proud honour of presenting the cup to his daughter before .

Caoilinn wes a most deserving skipper of a fantastic team performance , where each player played at and beyond their previous personal bests .

Whilst the famous Kerry side of previous years were proud of their Twin Towers, our attack was based on more precision and style rather than sheer altitude ! Donna McCann and Dayna Bradley simply pulverised the defense, and rattled score after score after score, each better than the last. One final flowing move ended with Donna bashing the upright with such a corker that the post is probably still shaking.

Up front assistance was provided by Ella O'Brien and Laura Walsh, while Sarah O'Shea proved a wonderful link between midfield and attack . The middle third was a bountiful location for Lisgoold where Siomha Walsh was exquisite in everything she did, and she proved a wonderful ally for the majestic Cara O'Brien, and later Aoife Roche.

Lorraine O'Driscoll (who was sadly forced off with an injury) and cousin Stephanie O'Drioscoll were solid and dependable throughout, whilst the inside full back line were strong an dependable where Aoife Healy ,

Kate Ruane and the brilliant Danielle O'Keeffe saw off seven direct opponents without a score ! Wing back Jody Townend hunted and challenged throughout and broke up attack after attack in an outstanding display. Keeper Kelsey Devin was dependable and sound throughout and her accurate kick outs were the launching pad for many an attack .

Team captain Caoilinn Hickey was a magnet for the ball , her reading of the play simply majestic, and she well deserved the opportunity to lead this fantastic team to a well deserved Championship victory.

Lisgoold U12 v Aghada - 8th Seotember

Our U12 girls played Aghada A in the semi-final of the East Cork Plate Competition on Wednesday 8th September in Rostellan.

This was a competition set up by the East Cork Board for girls/Clubs who did not qualify to play or play in the U12 County Competition.

It was a perfect evening for a game of ladies football and Lisgoold got off to a great start with a brilliantly taken point from centre forward, Siomha Walsh. Niamh Power floated a well taken free into the small square and Captain on the night, Ellen Flynn was on hand to smash the ball into the back of the net. Once again Siomha Walsh followed this up with another point.

It was after this that Aghada breached the Lisgoold defence and got their first score of the match. Our backs tightened up where Aoibhe Savage, Sarah Kelleher and Grace O’Driscoll did their utmost to prevent further scores. At the other end of the pitch Sinead O’Brien surged forward and added another point to Lisgoold’s tally. Aghada added a further three scores and Donna McCann finished Lisgoold’s first half scoring with a well taken point leaving four points between the sides at half time.

On the restart Aghada got into their stride and despite gallant efforts from our defence, they were not able to stem the attacks and in particular the scores from the Aghada full forward. Donna McCann opened our second half scoring with a great point but unfortunately the goals just didn’t come for us. Siomha Walsh, who gave a great display of football and was Lisgoold’s player of the match, added two more exceptionally taken points to our score. It just wasn’t Lisgoold’s night despite the best efforts of our players. The Trainers were very proud and heartened by the display of our team who never gave up fighting up to the final whistle.

The players can hold their heads high on a great effort and we wish them and their mentors the best of luck as they prepare for the up-coming East Cork Championship.

Lisgoold Team: Stephanie O’Driscoll, Sarah Kelleher, Fiona Murphy, Rachel McCann, Aoibhe Savage, Lorraine O’Driscoll, Grace O’Driscoll, Niamh Power, Donna McCann, Sinead O’Brien, Siomha Walsh, Orla Fleming, Laura Whelan, Ellen Flynn (Capt.) Lisgoold U10

Lisgoold Vs. Rockban - 3rd September.
After a summer break, we were back in action playing on a home venue. This match was hard fought and the referee, Ian O'Brien, was an inspiration guiding the girls, instilling discipline and explaining the rules, both mentors appreciated and applauded his refereeing method. Rockban won this match, however, the Lisgoold girls once again gave a great perforamance to their credit.

Lisgoold Vs. Fermoy. 17th September, 2010.
The Lisgoold girls again were in good form but beaten on the night by a much stronger team. A huge thank you for the great support given to the players by their families and friends. The girls enjoyed the match even if the outcome was not what they wanted.
